This month, I would like to talk about the relationship between the Village and Town of Franklinville and how that impacts you as a village resident/taxpayer. The Village of Franklinville is within the Town of Franklinville. This means you are a village and town resident. Villages exist to provide services for clusters of residents that aren't available in the town.
The village board's job is to serve the village taxpayers and make decisions that are in the best interest of the village. The town board's job is to serve all town taxpayers; this includes village and town residents. As a village resident, you get services from both, and each board makes decisions that are important and impact you.
Historically, there has not been consistent communication between the village and town boards. I am pleased to report that this has improved drastically over the last year thanks to increased efforts from both the town and village teams. Last year, Town Supervisor Catie Campbell had the idea to hold a joint meeting a few times a year to share information and promote working together. Everyone agreed this was a great idea and we successfully held our first joint meeting in September 2024, with our spring meeting taking place in March 2025.
I am confident that both the village and town teams are committed to making decisions that are in the best interest of their residents. Recently, there have been numerous formal and informal conversations between the two boards.
Our Village Board of Trustees will be attending the Town of Franklinville Board meeting on Tuesday May 13th at 7pm (Town Hall- 11 Park Square) to discuss topics in these letters, specifically our formal proposal to rent the Town of Franklinville courtroom for village court sessions. Both the village and town boards encourage residents to attend meetings and reach out to be involved, ask questions, and give feedback.
